Attention 5th-6th Grade Students!
In January and February, 5th and 6th grade students will be invited to create ceramic butterflies for Lurie's Children's Memorial Hospital. The hospital will hold a service in the spring for families to honor the memories of children they have lost. The ceramic butterflies will be gifts for the families. The elementary and Jr. High students will join together to create, glaze, and package the butterflies for the hospital! Sign up sheets will be handed out during art classes throughout December and due back by December 21st. This project is limited to 20 students, so turn in your permission slip as soon as you can!
What will students be doing in December?
Kindergarten: In the few weeks we have in December, we will focus on visual elements of the season of winter, from snowmen, snowflakes, and poinsettia painting.
1st grade students will be creating a winter scene inspired by the book "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Keats. Students will learn how a brush can create specific affects with paint, as well as creating dimension in artworks.
2nd grade is finishing their Navajo Rugs and will start a perspective snowman project! Each 2nd grade class will create a snowman in a different perspective!
3rd grade have been finishing their Miro-inspired aliens and are now finishing off the month with pop-up winter projects, incorporating value and patterns!
4th grade are finishing their crazy quilt designs and will begin their still life pictures inspired by Paul Cezanne.
5th grade are finishing up their masks and will begin their value paintings in January.
6th grade will be finishing their Egyptian portraits and soon begin creating ceramic faces inspired by Greek mythology. The students will be introduced to the history of theater in ancient Greece, and how masks were created to reflect the emotions of the characters.
